The Rev. John Forest Riggs
March 27, 1929 – October 19, 2005
Fr. Riggs was born in McKinney, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas in 1950. He then studied dentistry at the University of Missouri, graduating in 1955. After operating a dental practice for about a quarter century, he attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, earning his M. Div. in 1986. He was ordained in the Diocese of Kansas, where he served at St. Matthew’s, Sedan, and Church of the Epiphany, Sedan. Moving back to Texas, he became Vicar of St. James, Taylor, then was called as Rector of Church of the Resurrection, Austin, where he served from 1993 until his retirement in 2000. In the Diocese of Fort Worth, he served as the Vicar of St. Matthew’s, Comanche, and Trinity, Dublin, until mid-2005, when he and his wife, Gigi, moved to Georgetown, Texas. Fr. Riggs was a member of the Society of Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Gigi, five children, and their families.
