Location
St Simon of
Cyrene Episcopal Church is centrally located in the middle of the famous
Stop-Six neighborhood in southeast Fort Worth. St Simon is nestled on the
northeast corner of Ramey Avenue and Stulcup street, across from Dunbar
Middle School and one block down the street from the famous Dunbar High
School. Both schools have excellent Magnet programs.
Stop-Six
is a thriving African American community made up of multi-generational
young professionals and retirees. Stop-Six is known for its friendliness
where neighbors still greet each other in passing.
The mega-block
bounded by East Berry Street, Stulcup Street and Highway 180 is known to
be one of the most stable neighborhoods in Fort Worth. This is the section
of the city where many affluent African American professionals, politicians
and business leaders have lived for generations. This neighborhood has
some of the newest HUD homes as well as an upper-middle-class sub-division
just being developed at the corner of Ramey Avenue and 820.
Stop-Six
neighborhood is also home to one of the oldest high schools in the state
of Texas, Dunbar High School, with its several National and State championships
in academics, sports, and athletics. The celebrated National Basketball
Winnest Coach in Highschools, Mr. Robert Hughes, not only belongs to this
school, but also is a member of the congregation of St Simon’s Parish for
over thirty years.
John Peter
Smith Clinic, Rising Star Elementary School, Bank One, Ramey Supermarket,
and Blanch Child Care Center are only a few of the schools and businesses
located one or two blocks from St Simon’s church.
