A Pastoral Letter from Bishop Iker

Dear Members of St. Timothy,

I write to all of you out of my love and pastoral concern for you as we prepare to celebrate the joy of the Nativity of Our Lord this weekend. For many of you, this Christ-mass will be your last one in the church building that you have known and loved over the years. The decision of many of you to join the Anglican Ordinariate, along with Fr. Stainbrook, means the sadness of good-byes as well as the joy of seeking full communion with the See of Peter.

I want you to know of my fondness and respect for the personal decision you make, whether it is to join the Roman Catholic Church or to remain at St. Timothy’s as faithful Anglicans. Each of us seeks to discern the Lord’s will for us at this point in time and to be obedient to His calling. Though we may choose different paths, let us do so as friends and as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Bishop Keith Ackerman will be at St. Timothy’s for Sunday services, beginning Jan. 1, 2012, at 9 a.m. Fr. Stainbrook has announced the mass to be held at 2:00 p.m. that day at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church on Magnolia. We are grateful to Bishop Ackerman for providing ministry to those who will remain in the diocese, as well as to Fr. David Bristow for offering hospitality to the Ordinariate group. I also very much appreciate the efforts of your Vicar and Bishop’s Committee to work for a smooth and amicable transition in the days ahead.

Having served as your chief pastor and Father in God for the past 18-plus years, you surely know of the love and appreciation I have always had for your witness to the catholic faith. For many years St. Timothy’s has been known as the anglo-catholic shrine parish of the Diocese of Fort Worth, and it is my hope that this unique witness might continue.

May the peace and joy of Christmas be with you this week and in the coming New Year. God bless you, one and all.

Faithfully in Christ,

The Rt. Rev. Jack Leo Iker
Bishop of Fort Worth
